Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is one of the most famous festivals in the world and has been going on for more than 200 years. The festival began in 1810 when King Ludwig I married Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen, who was also known as “Madame Royale.” At that time Bavaria’s first beer fest was held on October 12th until 16th. This year it’s held from September 17th to October 3rd. Today, people from all over the world come to Munich to celebrate this event with millions of others!

This 16- to 18- day festival is held each year in Munich, Bavaria Germany in late September and early October. It is one of the most famous events in Germany and is the world’s largest fair, with more than 5 million people attending every year. During the event, large quantities of beer (over 7 million liters in 2007) are consumed along with enormous amounts of chicken, pork, and grilled fish. Did you know that in Germany it’s illegal to call a festival an “Oktoberfest” unless you’re in Munich or another city that has permission from the state government of Bavaria (where Munich is located)

There are many things about traditional German culture that make it different from America.

The traditional German culture is vastly different from American culture. While Americans are known for their love of patriotism, and being out in the sun all day, germans prefer to spend time indoors and drinking beer.
